How language shapes Claude's personality

Today I learned that Claude's personality shifts noticeably depending on the language you speak to it in. Anthropic researchers analyzed 310,000 conversations and found that in Hindi and Arabic Claude is warm and encouraging, while in Russian it's strict and demanding. In English it's cautious and thorough, and in Indonesian it just gets the task done without overthinking. What's intriguing is that the researchers themselves don't yet know what causes these differences: dataset composition, cultural norms, or quirks of fine-tuning. Source
